6-Week Fiction Workshop: Revise & Repeat

Writing is only half the battle. Revision is the rest.

In this workshop, we'll read selected published fiction and student work as writers, identify common elements of storytelling craft—including structure, chronology, character, point of view, and narrative voice—and discuss how to apply these strategies in producing and editing your own work. We'll give consideration to what you want to say in your work, as well as how you say it. You will have a clearer sense of how to move forward in your writing and revision process.

During this six-week intensive workshop, each student will workshop twice and have one individual meeting with the instructor.

- Intensive peer and instructor feedback on two fiction submissions

- One private conference with the instructor to discuss your writing style, goals, and areas for improvement

- Access to a nurturing community of writers and readers

- A greater understanding of craft issues, storytelling tools, and how to revise your work

- More confidence as a writer and editor, on and off the page

Ann Patchett

"Ko’s stunning tale of love and loyalty—to family, to country—is a fresh and moving look at the immigrant experience in America, and is as timely as ever."

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY starred review

"Vividly written and moving, THE LEAVERS is an engrossing story of one young boy struggling to adjust to his new life without his mother and community."

"THE LEAVERS will leave every reader craving more. This is one of the most ambitious novels of 2017, and it delivers."

"In THE LEAVERS, Lisa Ko has created one of the most courageous mother characters in recent memory.... It was a book I did not want to end."

"Beautifully written and deeply affecting, combining the emotional insight of a great novel with the integrity of long-form journalism, THE LEAVERS is a timely meditation on immigration, adoption, and the meaning of family."

"[A] dazzling debut… Filled with exquisite, heartrending details, Ko’s exploration of the often-brutal immigrant experience in America is a moving tale of family and belonging."
