Audrey Farley is a literary and cultural historian. Her forthcoming book, The Unfit Heiress: The Tragic Life and Scandalous Sterilization of Ann Cooper Hewitt  (Grand Central) tells the story of a 1930s millionairess whose mother secretly sterilized her, sparking a sensational case and drawing the public's attention to the eugenics movement. Her work-in-progress looks at the 1922 Hall-Mills murders to chronicle the free love movement and the birth of the culture wars in America. Prior to writing full-time, she taught literature at University of Maryland, where she earned a PhD.
